POLITICS IN VERSE

MY THOUGHTS ON BILL CLINTON
by Chuck Sullivan.. Copyright©1998

I can safely depict that politics is definitely not my bag,
But the way things went, our president, has finally made me gag.
I'll grant you that others may have done the things he's done,
He's not the first to aquire a thirst for extra-marital fun.

It's his lying under oath and the abuse of power,
That has destroyed America's trust and turned our stomachs sour.
There are other abuses too that soon will come to light,
There will be more serious battles that he will soon have to fight.

Too many people accept his actions as just a minor incident,
And I just have to wonder where America's morals went.
Any one who fills his shoes, I think we all will find,
Can't be worse than what we have, for God's sake Bill, Resign!

HELL TO THE CHIEF   by Chuck Sullivan .. Copyright©1998

Hell to the chief,
Now is the time,
To rid the White House
Of that presidential slime.

I am sure now that he
definitely did inspire,
The phrase we have all heard,
Liar, liar pants on fire.

What this nation needs now
is to have his residence vacated,
and to bring in the Orkin man
to have the White House fumigated.

The Second Hundred Years by Chuck Sullivan ......Copyright©1993

This country's seed was planted, two hundred years ago,
When Americans hung together so freedom's seed could grow.
The harvest came about, like the history book relates,
And from the blisters on their hands, came these United States.
Our country grew and prospered and the world was soon to see,
A growth of strength and Character from the land of the free.
Now wevils gnaw our roots and locust make their bid,
And if we don't stick together like our forefathers did,
And rid this land of insects, no matter where they fly,
We might as well just sell the farm,

AND KISS OUR ASS GOODBYE!

WAKE UP AMERICA by Chuck Sullivan ...................Copyright©1996

America's once strong foundation is eroding away,
Character is less important in our thinking of today.
It seems that family values have become a dirty word,
While those who would defend them are made to seem absurd.

The desires of the minority keeps prayer out of schools,
What happened to the concept, i t's the majority that rules?
No one is forced to participate when we bow our heads to pray,
How can it hurt another when we start our day this way?

It's time to wake up America, It may be our last call,
When you let your freedoms slip away the liberals have it all.
Americans now, must take a stand, our hope is at the polls,
We must recover freedoms lost and restore America's goals,

We must return to principles that made America great,
Now is the time to do it, let's hope we're not too late!

A MESSAGE TO CONGRESS by chuck sullivan.... Copyright©1996

If America has another revolt I think that you ought to know,
That you, the members of congress, will be the first ones to go!
From revolution America emerged, it was seventeen seventy six,
No more taxation without representation, but today our citizens are taking their licks.

The American people want spending cuts, new taxes we don't need,
You ignore the pleas of the masses and the masses continue to bleed.
You let appointees that you have confirmed push many of our freedoms aside,
And show contempt for our forefathers' deeds and the freedoms they fought for and died.

You've sold your soul to foreign lobbyists who tempt you from foreign lands,
You live in a world of perks and greed as jobs are stripped from American hands.
You can blame it on the President but here lies the basic flaw,
You are the reason and I call it treason, because it is congress that makes the law.

You pass legislation that is like a giant jaw, but you exempt yourself from its bite,
You hold yourselves high, above the law, you know you're not treating the rest of us right.
You let politics and personal gain sweep the needs of our country aside,
While you stuff your pockets with American sweat, and for this, our forefathers died?

Scandal after scandal you foster, there's no character in politics it seems,
You put self before your country and ignore your constituents dreams.
You should be servants of the people, but it's shame and distrust you bear,
And the ironic, tragic, shame of it all, it was WE THE PEOPLE who put you there.

THE REAL MAN by chuck Sullivan ................................Copyright©1996

What is a real man? I've thought about it a lot,
And I think I have it sorted out, see if you agree or not,
A real man is responsible, and committed there is no doubt,
To his family, his country and society, he'll hang in, and never cop out.

A real man has character, and perseverance is his tool,
He knows what integrity is, for honesty is his rule.
His kids are raised in a family of love, he'll teach them values so they can relate,
To society with needed qualities, that have always made America great.

He knows the day his kids are born, he owes them more than a place to live,
They will have stability, and parental love, as only a mother and father can give,
A real man makes a solemn vow, to hold his family together,
No matter how stormy his marriage gets, he'll hang on for calmer weather.

For children need mothers and fathers and examples that they may relate,
To a love between man and woman, when they search for their lifelong mate.
It is the lack of family values that are causing the problems today,
It is in the unity of the family where real men show the way!

I WISH I KNEW THE ANSWER by chuck sullivan ..............Copyright©1996

Congress has a chaplain, I wonder why he's there.
Why are congressional sessions always started with a prayer?
If God's help is needed there where our laws are made each day,
Why must our public schools be aplace where you can't pray?
How can our values be preserved from the evil, decadent few,
Who forced their way into our schools? I only wish I knew !

VOTE RIGHT by chuck sullivan .......................................Copyright © 1996

To keep a campaign promise is these days very rare,
After candidates are elected they often cease to care,
The mistake we voters make is a very common one,
We cast our votes on promises instead of jobs well done.

If we were hiring an employee to manage personal affairs,
Our priorities for employment would be exercised with care,
We would search for truth and honesty in the annals of their past,
And be concerned about their character before our vote was cast,

We would take the time and trouble to check out their resume,
We would put more faith in what they've done and less in what they say,
But today we choose our leaders by their slogans on TV,
And if that is ever going to change it must start with you and me.

We must scrutinize each candidate before we cast our vote,
And I don't say this to alarm you, but just as a final note,
If we don't take this business seriously, it's more likely than not,
We'll have more public servants, just like the ones we've got!
